Twice the size of human palm, broad-leaved Melnik (Shiroka in Bulgarian) vine grows only in Struma Valley region of South Western Bulgaria. Melnik is small rustic town of Bulgaria nestled in foothills with ancient fortress like houses & fairytale chimney shaped sand and limestone pyramids.
One of the famous producers of Shiroka wine from broad-leaved Melnik varietal is Villa Melnik Family Winery. Villa Melnik’s Aplauz Shiroka is aged 18 months in Bulgarian oak barrel. It is a medium body wine with sweet aromas of strawberries, tobacco & sour cherries. I call it a delicacy of Bulgaria & a gift of God for Melnik winemakers. 🍷🍇🍁🇧🇬
