Kakheti, Viticulture Capital of Georgia & Georgia Starts Here..

Kisiskhevi a quaint village in Kakheti district 60 Kms East of Tbilisi, is wine & meat lovers paradise. Famous for Saperavi grapes fermented into most delicious dry red wine is one of its kind in the whole world. My wife and I drove through the Caucuses and stayed in Schuchmann Wines. A perfect getaway in an alluring universe to unwind and sip on delectable reds & whites, carefully crafted from indigenous grape varieties of Kakheti region.

Georgia is home to over 500 grape varieties including some of the endangered vines that are not found anywhere in the world except in Georgia. More than 70% of wines are produced in Kakheti, making it premier wine-producing region of Georgia.

One of my favorite wines was Mukuzani, crafted 100% from Saperavi grapes that are cultivated on north bank of Alazani river. Saperavi stays on vines for the longest time and is harvested around early October. The wine is typically aged for 2 to 3 years in oak barrels. Mukuzani has that hint of spices on the palette and the taste of ripe blackberries and plums.

If you’re interested in exploring unique flavors of Georgian wines, I highly recommend a visit to rustic villages and wineries in Kakheti. Don’t forget to treat your body and soul with their famous wine therapy and bath being offered in several wine spas & hotels in Kakheti. Kakheti is a marvelous place where you may loose yourself and find a new you in equal measures. A taste of Georgian traditions and hospitality, we will remember for a very long time!! 🍷🥂🍇🇬🇪
