Brimming with talents Atanas Povlovski is the youngest wine master at Villa Melnik Family Winery in Harsovo. Born and raised in the city of Stara Zagora about 250 Kms east of Sofia, Atanas possesses great knowledge of Struma Valley history, geography and it’s terroir. After completing high school, Atanas went to Plovdiv for higher education and earned his masters degree from University of Food Technologies – Plovdiv.
Atanas joined The Zikatanovas Villa Melnik Family Winery in May 2017. He is well travelled and spent some quality time in Napa Valley, California during his graduation years pursuing his degree in food & technology discipline.
My wife and I visited Melnik this summer and had an opportunity to interact with Atanas about his passion of winemaking. He lives up to his idea to strive for five when he is designing his wines. Atanas alluded to us that he would not settle for substandard quality or shoddy work ever. He is very methodical and does sensory examination and evaluation of wines at every step. He is the kinda wine artist born with a sensitive nose & a gift of crafting finest wines.
Atanas and team successfully concluded campaign 2018 and are now preparing vines for dormancy in upcoming winter months. It was great meeting you Atanas and tasting some of your premium blends during our visit to Villa Melnik earlier this year. Have a great holiday season and keep making good wines.
