Volcan Mountain Winery, Based In Julian – California’s Historical Landmark

Volcan Mountain Winery is situated at the base of Volcan Mountain under the blue skies of Julian. At 4200 elevation in picturesque San Pasqual Valley, Volcan has a rustic tasting room and a stand-alone winery surrounded by the vineyards and apple orchards. The historic town of Julian is just a couple miles scenic drive away from the winery, where Gold Rush began in 1870s’.

Dating back to 1905, the family has been crafting premium boutique wines from the estate grown fruits and carefully nurtured local vineyards. Volcan vineyards presently produce Pino Grigio and Pino Noir. Jim Hart, the owner and wine master is excited to plant new vines of different grape varietals to Volcan vineyards in Spring of 2019. Volcan carries a great selection of hand-crafted wines responsibly produced by amazing team lead by Jim. Their orchards grow over 20 varieties of delicious apples. From the apples picked in their own orchards, Volcan produces most delicious apple wine and apple port. My wife loved their bubbly sparkling apple wine Pomme D’Amour, it was very refereshing!! And I loved their Cabernet Franc, a delicious red with aroma of black cherries and spice. The wine has rich taste and soft tannins delivering persistent fruit flavors with a lingering finish. The tasting room is so cozy and decorated with lovely props. Shannon the tasting room server was super amazing. She had a great knowledge of wines and also guided us to how navigate in Julian – where to eat and where to pick up famous “Julian Apple Pie” from.

Volcan has an outdoor picnic area with plenty of loungers and picnic tables offering 360 degree scenic views of orchards, vineyards and Volcan mountain. Suit yourself to bring your own hors d’ oeuvres and food to pair with your favorite wine purchase. Volcan hosts cultural and musical events from time to time and caters food on the property, so check out their website www.volacanmountainwinery.com before heading up there.

Whether you’re staying in an Airbnb or in a cabin around Julian or you’re making a day trip to this rustic Gold Rush town, stop in for a glass of most delicious hand-crafted wine here. You will be amazed with the beauty of most picturesque surroundings of this historical landmark. Don’t be surprised if you hear gobbling of turkeys, screeching of the owls and encounter a family of deers out & about.

Just a couple of hours drive Southeast from Orange County, my wife and I had a great day in Julian. Wine tasting at Volcan Mountain Winery was the the highlight of our day out in California’s historic landscape. We bought their famous apple sparkling wine (2016 Pomme D’Amour) and an aromatic scented candle to take home with us. Thank you Shannon for being such a wonderful host. We loved your winery!!

On our way back we drove through Julian town center. We stopped at Miners diner for lunch and bought the famous Julian apple pie from Moms. If you’re an apple pie lover, this is the place to get a slice of delicious apple pie with a scoop of fresh vanilla ice cream. Cheers & Happy Veterans Day everyone!! 🍷🥂🍇🍁 🍎 🍏 🇺🇸
